“Recently I have been thinking about my past and my Iranian heritage. I have been researching the recent history of Iran and particularly the years just before the 1979 revolution and what has happened since. I feel that I am re-remembering a dream that I had long ago as a child. These images I hope show something of my investigations. I have felt the need for them to include people since past is also largely about the people. I have also realised how many of the landscapes I have created over the years have been Iran; subconsciously I have been going there when it has been too difficult to go there in reality.
I’ve found it difficult to feel connected with what I feel about Iran over the years but I feel this work is drawing me closer to an understanding. I’m so moved by the strength and beauty of Iranians and the beauty of the country. I will write more but I hope this is introduction enough for now.”
